EQ3 Leather Salema Couch caused terrible back and neck pain

We purchased a Salema couch at the recommendation of a designer. When we received the couch it was very odorous and required weeks of airing with fans and open windows.

It took about six weeks for the smell to dissipate to a point where you couldn't detect the odor. Once we were able to sit on the couch, my husband and I both began to experience back pain and my husband started having neck pain as well. We visited the chiropractor several times and then it finally dawned on us that maybe the couch was to blame. We never had such pain before.

When we didn't use the couch the pains improved. The back of the couch is very low and the seat cushions are not firm. EQ3 sent a technician who said that there was nothing technically wrong with the couch and therefore was not covered under warranty. EQ3 is selling a product that is not ergonomically well designed and can definitely cause terrible issues with body pain and I would never recommend the product to anyone nor would I ever shop at the store again.

Terrible customer service from the sales person who originally sold the couch to the customer service representatives. It is actually quite shocking and extremely disappointing.

You issue is with the designer you used, not EQ3 . The designer recommended the Salema sofa to you.

When buying a sofa it is recommended to go to the store and sit in it for more than 5 seconds. spend some time, bring a book. The sales staff will understand and let you enjoy a good sit. This is the only way to tell if it is the right fit for you.

Your designer should have known what you were looking for. She failed not EQ3. Sound like a clear case of buyers remorse because you didn't put in your due diligence. When you buy a car do you not take it for a test run.

Or do you just sit in it with the door open in the showroom and hope for the best.

All leather takes time to vent as well, leather shoes smell , leather jackets smell, and so do purses. I think you just tried to use that as a leverage point and it didn't work.

Ae also bought an EQ3 Sofa - the Cello sectional. My husband I also have started experiencing neck pain, back pain and hip pain.

We didn’t reguster it was the sofa until yesterday and then found your review. We tried it in store but this did not hapoen. Our pcushions have collapsed. They don’t stay up at the back and sink under you.

I am not heavy person and they still do this.

Its like alk feathers and no memory foam! We are now going to try to contact eq3.

It would have been useful to mention the actual name of the couch in this review.

EQ3 do not stand behind their products!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I purchased 2 table lamps at the end of August 2017. I love the lamps and they are perfect for my bedside tables. On September 17/17 while dusting I noticed that one of the lamps had a hairline crack running down the side of the lamp. The lamp has never been moved since the day I purchased it. I questioned whether the heat of the lamp cracked the cement body. I took the lamp back to EQ3 Burlington with my receipt. Burlington contacted head office and I was told it was final sale and they would not replace or refund. To me final sale, deals with customers that change their minds or possibly made a poor selection. However, I never thought a final sale eliminates the warranty of an item. This is an obvious manufacturing problem but EQ3 did not care. They chose to lose a customer who has been buying from EQ3 for 10 years rather than stand behind their products and allow me to try another lamp or reselect. Needless to say I'm very disappointed in the response I received and have made the decision to not shop at EQ3 again. I am just thankful that I was not dealing with a more costly item such as a chair or sofa. If it is final sale do not expect them to follow up with any warranty issues.

Poor Hardware

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I just bought the Lawrence reclining chair for a great price but the hardware they use for the recliner is terrible. It has no detents for different foot rest heights and you have to slam the footrest into the chair for it to lock in the closed position.

Price Conversions

My husband and I were contemplating buying a sofa from EQ3. We live in the U.S.

The closest location to us is Winnipeg. I was wondering how the price conversion between Canada and the U.S. worked , so I called the company. They said their prices listed on the U.S.

website were already converted. I asked a Canadian friend to take a screen shot of the Canadian website (same exact product) so that I could convert the price myself. As it turned out, their price was not quite $200.00 (U.S.) more than what they listed on the website. While I realize that the conversion rate can change daily, it doesn't change super quickly and I don't really see any reason for it to be nearly $200.00 off.

It's possible that they are including the duty tax in their pricing, but then they should state that so that the consumer knows the full story. It makes the company look shady. Also, after reading what other people had to say about their sofa buying experience, I'm no longer interested in EQ3 for a sofa and we won't be traveling to Winnipeg to sit on what we thought would be our new sofa.

I don't need to buy trouble. I'll stick with Minnesota based Room and Board.

Salema chair poor quality upholstery

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I tested the Salema chair in the showroom, it felt great for a chair to read in. I paid a lot for it and waited a long time (each chair is made to order). My own chair unfortunately features poor quality upholstery. It is not comfortable. After a few minutes your butt starts to slide forwards. After 30 minutes in the chair I have a sore back, something I have never had. It looks good, but it is not fit for purpose. I now need to write a few more words to get up to 100 words..I am nearly there..OK getting very close now I am in the 90s...la la la nearly OK that's good.

London store...very unprofessional after purchase!

My husband and I purchased a $7000.00 DecoRest leather sectional mid September, finally arrived 8 weeks later, after being told 4-6. The delivery was 'thrown into' the deal because of the amount we spent. The delivery men dropped off 6 huge boxes in our family room, and left. We called and they told us we should have asked for the 'set up' delivery which is $150.00. We called and spoke to 3 people (1 salesperson, the manager, and finally the owner himself!). We asked what we were to do with the 8'x6' mountain of thick heavy cardboard and plastic. They said someone would come the next day, pick it up, and dispose of the garbage.....of course a NO SHOW! It took us 3 weeks to get rid of it all. We have given them a month to call and apologize or something, and nothing. Extremely unprofessional and very disappointed! I will not likely be ever shopping there again nor recommending to anyone!

Modern Living in London Ontario in NOT an EQ3 store. Yes, they sell EQ3 furniture, but they are just an independent distributor. If you want a real EQ3 sales experience visit the store in Burlington.

Consistently Low Quality Items - Poor Customer Service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Have purchased three orders from EQ3 on separate occasions - have encountered issues with each order - All of our household orders have not arrived in proper condition or quality form EQ3. 1. Plasma Entertainment Unit - Swinging doors - one door was not properly hinged, crooked - caused damage to the unit each time it was closed - the store blamed it on an un-level floor in my home - despite having provided pictures of a level with a perfectly level floor. 2. Reclaimed Teak Bed - Product came with a footboard which could not be attached as directed - footboard came with improperly positioned holes for the bolts to go through to secure the bed legs to the bed frame - could not use bed frame - Have now been waiting over 6 weeks for EQ3 to provide a proper footboard so that the bed can be used. 3. Purchased dinning room chairs - one chair arrived with stained stitching and a missing base of a leg - chair was un-level. The store's staff is very good at deflecting concerns by having the customer contact their customer service department. The retail locations are responsible for sales and take no ownership of follow-up. I would much prefer the sales associate to deal with the issues and take ownership for the problems encountered - that would be a reasonable definition of customer service. Will likely not make any further purchases from this retailer given our personal experience with the store's products and lacking customer service and response times.

Terrible Quality

EQ3's furniture costs a lot of money but is really terrible quality furniture. The wood finish chips and peels off the furniture very quickly. We have had to replace our kitchen table and bed many times while it was still under warranty. We bought an expensive bed frame and the wood on the foot of the bed's supporting beam actually split and broke in half. All off the screws were coming loose from the support structure. When explaining this to customer service they said there was nothing they could do. Terrible service. I would not buy anything from here again.

Terrible couch

I purchased a couch from EQ3. I have owned it for less than a year. Of course, delivery took an entire month longer than they told me. It finally arrived. Only one year later, half the buttons on the couch (Reverie) have fallen off, the fabric is sagging, and there are loose threads everywhere. I hardly have friends over; it's really just tiny 100lb me on the couch every day, so I'm certain it has less wear than the average couch. Please explain to me why it is falling apart, EQ3? This is pathetic. I would never recommend EQ3 furniture to anyone. What a waste of $2,000. Go with IKEA, seriously.

THE WORST

I'm on week SEVEN waiting for my dining room table to be delivered, despite the 2-4 week timeframe provided (which already seemed pretty long). Every time I call or email customer service, they tell me the delivery partner will be contacting me that day - and then of course, no call. And they won't give me the name of the delivery company so I can call them myself. I've paid a lot of money for a table that I don't have! Apparently it has been in Ottawa for at least 3 weeks. I would pick the *** thing up myself if they would tell me where it is. NEVER AGAIN will I give this company my money. Never.

New EQ3 couch smells terrible!

The price was okay for a new sectional, it came in approximately five weeks after the order, we finessed free delivery, and the thing is now looking great in my living room.

I, on the other hand, am trying to stay away from the house, because the couch smells gross and I don't particularly want to be killed by its fumes, whatever they may be. It's winter time, so I can't just open the windows, and where do you put an enormous couch when it's snowing outside? The fabric is all sewn on, so there's no way to take it off and wash it.

I'm new at this -- next time I'll buy used.

The smell you are smelling is referred to as "off gasing'.

Like buying a new car with it's "new car scent'

The smell will diminish within time, opening a window to allow it to breath will help to dissipate the scent a lot quicker.

Hope this helps.

Its been 8 months. Has your couch finished passing gas?

We bought a sofa from EQ3 in July 2016 ... the sofa still smells and i can't stand to sit on it for too long ... wish i could just give it back!

Guest

My Sofa was delivered today - 2 months late. I love the design - it's the right colour but OMG it STINKS.

My whole apartment smells WITH the patio door open.

Giving me a headache!

Guest

Just got ours, and it stinks too and it is also winter. I feel like I'm getting dizzy and resorted to sitting in the dining room. So sad.

Overall good experience

This review pertains to the Montreal location of EQ3, and to my overall experience with the company as well.

I acknowledge that some have had a bad experience with EQ3, and from bad experiences with other companies, I can certainly relate as to why you may have hard feelings. I would just like to share my good experience, in support of what I think are a good company offering a good product for an acceptable price. We bought a Salema sectional sofa, an ottoman, 4 panton chairs, the Harvest table, two table extensions and the bench. Delivery was late by about 1-2 weeks, but EQ3 refunded delivery to compensate. All products arrived in excellent condition with all parts required for assembly. Only issue was they delivered only 1 of 2 table extensions. I called customer service and they made the extension available for pickup the same day. Throughout my entire experience customer service, either on-site or over the phone/email, was courteous and helpful. The price we paid for these products is fair considering the quality i.e. as other have mentioned better than IKEA, but don't expect top-of-the-line for the price they offer. The harvest table seems sturdy enough, and the Salema sectional looks to be built well too. We'll see how the fabric and foam holds up.

Again, overall I am content with EQ3. However, this review does not attest to the durability of the pieces I bought as it is too early to tell.
